Seplat Energy PLC - Lagos-based oil and gas company focused on Nigeria - Notes it receives no notification of the proposed acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited having ministerial approval withdrawn.

"Seplat Energy has received no official notification of such a decision and is seeking clarification from the relevant authorities," it adds. "We will continue to work with all parties to achieve a successful outcome to the proposed acquisition and will provide an update in due course."

On Wednesday, says it was aware of news and social media reports "alleging impropriety" in the process of securing ministerial consent for Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited deal. Stressed this was "wholly untrue". On Monday, Seplat said Muhammadu Buhari, president of Nigeria, approved that ministerial consent be granted to Seplat Energy Offshore Ltd's USD1.28 billion acquisition of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited from Exxon Mobil Corp.

Current stock price: 116.50 pence, down 5.9% on Thursday
