(Alliance News) - Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Tuesday reported a surge in passenger numbers in July, as the airline added new routes and travel restrictions across Europe eased.
The company carried 3.0 million passengers last month, up 62% year-on-year from 1.8 million. Month-on-month, passenger numbers increased 90% from 1.6 million.
The load factor, measuring the number of seats filled, was 79% in July, up from 61% a year ago and 64% in June.
More services played a part in rising passenger numbers, with 32 new routes from Rome starting in July. Wizz Air's capacity increased 25% year-on-year, to 3.8 million seats from 3.0 million.
The budget airline, based in Budapest and registered in Jersey, also benefited from easing restrictions in Europe. The EU Digital Covid Certificate, allowing travel within the bloc, was rolled out on July 1.
Shares in Wizz Air were down 0.5% to 5,048.00 pence in London.
