Welcome to the new, improved Closed-end Fund Centre. This is where you’ll find information on investment trusts and other closed-end funds (CEFs). The term “investment trust” refers to a specific type of closed-end fund – you can read all about it in our previous article What's In a Name?
In that article, we cited our plans to rename Morningstar's Investment Trusts page to reflect the broader universe of closed-end funds that now exist in the UK. We’ve now done exactly that. In keeping with this, your weekly installment of Investment Trust Times will become Closed-end Fund Times, or CEF Times from next week.
What else have we changed? We’ve added some short slideshows which explain, in simple terms, some of the more complex aspects of the CEF structure. You can find these under CEF Education.
We have also introduced new CEF pages on individual companies, which give more helpful data in a format that’s easy to read. The CEF Screener has been improved, too. We’ll be writing about some of these enhanced features in more detail soon to help you understand how to use the data.
You’ll see on the CEF webinars page that we plan to have monthly webinars, starting January, talking through a variety of topics. You can sign up for the January webinar now. Our previous webinar, Investment Trusts: Back in Vogue, will give you a taster of more to come.
We’ve added a short survey too. We’d like to start gathering your thoughts on closed-end investments – have you ever used them, do you understand their nuances? Please do take a couple of minutes to complete this and help us make sure we’re meeting your needs.
There are further plans in the pipeline, including research reports and ratings on individual funds. We will also be introducing a CEF monthly newsletter in the New Year.
We value your feedback so please let us know what you think of these changes. You can share your thoughts using the Comments feature below this article, or contact us via the Analyst Feedback form.
