Jack Bogle is an American investing legend. He's written numerous books on investing, and founded the Vanguard Group--one of the two largest fund houses in the world--in 1974.

Bogle and Vanguard have led the charge when it comes to delivering low-cost, high quality funds to investors in the States. The firm is structured as a mutual organisation that is owned by fund shareholders and provides its services at cost, and the median TER across its entire retail fund range--which

includes both actively managed and tracker funds--is a staggeringly low 0.21%. To put that in perspective, the cheapest retail UK fund charges 0.28% and the median UK TER is well north of 1.5%.

Although Vanguard doesn’t offer funds for UK retail investors, Bogle is an exceptionally thoughtful investor who has been through his share of market cycles. We recently interviewed him at the "Vanguard Diehards" conference in the States. In this video, he discusses the current market environment and how individual investors can cope with the downturn with Morningstar US Director of Personal Finance Christine Benz.
