Old Mutual has announced today that Ashton Bradbury will be stepping down as head of the firm's UK small- and mid-cap desk at the end of 2008. As part of the move, he will relinquish management of the respected Old Mutual UK Select Mid-Cap fund to Richard Watts, who has been part of Bradbury's team since 2002. Dan Nickols, manager of Old Mutual UK Select Small Companies, will take over as head of the desk.

Bradbury is taking on a new role as Head of Equities and will also join the board of Old Mutual. The firm also announced that Eoin Murray, currently Chief Investment Officer of Old Mut

ual Asset Managers, will be leaving the group after a "handover period."

Bradbury's departure will leave a small/mid-cap team of three: Dan Nickols, Richard Watts, and Luke Kerr. Although we believe the team is strong, and are comforted by Bradbury's continuing presence at the firm, his departure from active management can only be seen as a negative factor given the degree of success and experience he brought to the table. We will be updating our qualitative opinion of Old Mutual Select UK Mid-Cap once we have assessed the situation in more depth.
