(Alliance News) - Delta Gold Technologies PLC on Monday said has filed its first provisional patent application following a new discovery made in partnership with the University of Toronto.

The London-based gold mining and exploration company additionally signed a sponsored research agreement with The Pennsylvania State University in relation to the invention.

Delta Gold said its patent application covered novel transducer structures for quantum devices. The US National Institute of Standards and Technology describes transduction as "an efficient conversion of quantum information from one material system to another." Additional details regarding the invention are still forthcoming.

"We are very excited about the discovery made at the UofT and the progress being made at Penn State," said Delta Gold Chief Executive Officer R Michael Jones. "The first Provisional Patent filing, which protects the date of our initial invention, represents a very important milestone, and the work continues at pace."

Shares in Delta Gold closed at 145 pence per share in London on Wednesday.
