(Alliance News) - Caledonia Mining Corp PLC shares rose on Tuesday as the company reported better-than-expected results from its deep level drilling programme at the Blanket mine in Zimbabwe.
The Jersey-registered Zimbabwe gold mine operator said that the orebodies in the area returned grades and widths consistent with or exceeding expectations, and will as such update its mineral resource estimate during the year. The results also suggest that gold could be found further deep than anticipated.
Shares in Caledonia Mining were up 5.7% to 1,850.00 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.
The company said that it completed 10,312 metres of deep level drilling between March and December 2025.
The programme showed that the Eroica orebody, located a kilometre north from the Blanket site, returned results consistent with expectations, while the Blanket orebody returned a new intercept with "excellent" grades of up to 9.2 grams per tonne at a depth of 1,045 metres from the surface. The newly discovered orebody has been named Blanket 7.
The Lima orebody has been confirmed to "34 level", meaning that the presence of gold was found at a depth of 1,110 metres below the surface, which Caledonia said supports the the potential for further depth extensions.
The deep drilling results are expected to be incorporated into an updated mineral resource and mineral reserve statement to be released this year, the company added.
Caledonia Mining's Chief Executive Officer said: "The latest results from our deep drilling programme reinforce the geological strength of Blanket mine and demonstrate the continuity of mineralisation at depth across multiple orebodies. The consistency of grades and widths we are seeing...provides growing confidence in the scale and quality of the mineral resource below the current lowest levels of the mine.
"These outcomes support our longer term planning efforts and highlight the value of the investments we have made".
