(Alliance News) - BSF Enterprise PLC on Thursday said its subsidiary, Lab-Grown Leather Ltd, has developed the world's first product made from lab-grown T-Rex Leather.

The London-based biotech company said the luxury handbag, which was designed by techwear label Enfin Leve, is set to be debuted on Thursday at the Art Zoo Museum in Amsterdam.

Shares in BSF Enterprise more than doubled to 2.0 pence on Thursday afternoon in London.

The company said the unveiling marks a "significant milestone" for its wholly owned subsidiary, "demonstrating the successful application of its proprietary tissue engineering technology to extinct protein sequences."

BSF said the initial handbag serves as a proof-of-concept, but said it intends to scale the underlying technology across multiple high-value sectors. These, said the company, include Luxury Fashion as well as Automotive & Performance.

BSF said the handbag will be sold to the highest bidder following a six-week exhibition at the museum.

"By collaborating with VML and The Organoid Company, we're unlocking the potential to engineer leather from prehistoric species. This venture showcases the power of cell-based technology to create materials that are both innovative and ethically sound, paving the way for commercially attractive improvements in unique character and cost-efficiency," said BSF Enterprise Chief Executive Che Connon.
