(Alliance News) - Senior representatives from the US and China will meet in London on Monday for further trade talks, US President Donald Trump said on Friday.

The US delegation will be led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social.

Trump had agreed on the new round of talks during a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, although the exact time and location of the meeting had not initially been determined.

He said the discussions will focus on the details of a trade agreement reached in May between the two largest economies in the world.

Following the phone call between the two leaders, China expressed itself more cautiously, urging the US to adhere to the mutual agreements of the deal. Beijing stated that the Chinese side had implemented the agreement seriously and conscientiously.

Since taking office, Trump has pursued a tough trade policy towards China. At one point, he raised tariffs on imports from China to the US in several steps to a staggering 145%, prompting Beijing to respond with counter-tariffs.

In mid-May, both sides agreed during a meeting in Switzerland to pause the escalation and temporarily reduce tariffs.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump did not provide specific details about the exact time and location of Monday's negotiations in London, but said they would be forthcoming.
