(Alliance News) - Speedy Hire PLC said that it has partnered with Niftylift to design and manufacture the world's first hydrogen-electric powered access platform.

Speedy Hire, the Merseyside, England-based tools and equipment hire services company, said that the platform would be manufactured and made available for hire in Milton Keynes.

Powered access platform is a type of aerial work platform critical for the construction industry. This hydrogen-eletric power access platform would be a viable alternative to diesel-powered equipment on construction sites at early-stages where electricity infrastructure is almost non-existent.

The hydrogen-electric powered access platform can be operated for up to five days on a single charge, emitting zero carbon into the atmosphere.

Niftylift is a Milton Keynes, England-based manufacturer of mobile elevating work platforms.

"The world's first hydrogen-electric powered access platform will roll off the production line at Niftylift and be delivered to Speedy Hire's innovation centre in Milton Keynes during July," the company said.

Chief Executive Dan Evans said: "Our investment into this partnership with Niftylift enables us to accelerate the sustainable and technological evolution of the sectors we operate in and supports our ambitious plan to become a net zero business by 2040, ten years ahead of the government target."

Shares in Speedy Hire were down 0.4% at 36.05 pence in London on Tuesday morning.
