Poll: Morningstar 2009 Fund Awards

Who do you think should win?

As I recently wrote, we're getting ready to announce the Morningstar Fund Awards for 2009. You can read all the details here, but we start from the premise that awarding funds based on one year results isn't terribly helpful to investors. For one, funds are too costly to buy and sell to hold for just one year, and are thus best used as long-term investments. Moreover, any manager can have a good year or two, but stringing together strong performance through time is a harder proposition. Our awards therefore focus on identifying funds that have delivered strong long-term returns in addition to good performance over the past year, with reasonable risk relative to offerings in th

eir peer groups. Institutional funds or share classes are ineligible, because we think a fund should be able to show it can succeed even while bearing the full charges paid by retail investors.

The final awards decisions have already been determined by these criteria--and, significantly, also by our analysts' qualitative judgment--and will be announced later this week, but who do you think should win? Here's your chance to have your say: We've listed the funds that ranked highest according to our criteria in each category below, so just select your favourite in each category and press the "Vote" button.
