(Alliance News) - Great Southern Copper PLC on Monday said it has identified a large intrusive-related copper-gold mineralisation at its Cerro Chinchillon prospect in Chile.

The mineral exploration company focused on copper-gold deposits in Chile said the mineralisation indicated grades of up to 1.7% copper and 3.62 grammes of gold per tonne.

The firm noted that multiple unidirectional solidification textures occurrences are a positive indicator of mineralised intrusions in the San Lorenzo district.

Great Southern added that "broad zones" of anomalous copper, gold and molybdenum present in sheeted fracture systems within granodiorite confirm the potential of large scale copper and gold mineralisation in those systems.

Chief Executive Officer Sam Garrett said: "Intrusive-related gold-copper deposits have the potential to be very large and we have only scratched the surface in terms of the volume of monzonite bodies to test at San Lorenzo, most of which exhibit evidence of mineralisation to some degree."

Garrett added that the company's "ongoing regional exploration efforts are identifying new targets which will require further prospect-scale exploration."

Great Southern shares were flat at 1.00 penny each in London on Monday morning.
