(Alliance News) - BP PLC on Tuesday said it has extended its local arrangements partnership with Uber Technologies Inc into a new global strategic partnership.

By 2025, convenience products from BP's filling station stores will be available on the Uber Eats platform in 3,000 retail locations.

The London-based oil and gas company said the partnership will extend current local arrangements in Australia, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa and the west coast of the US.

Further, it is going to add retail sites the UK and eastern US in 2022, with plans to launch in other European markets from 2023.

BP said: "The partnership supports BP's goal of growing its access to customers and expanding its delivery footprint, in response to soaring demand for food, groceries and everyday essentials brought to the door."

BP plans to utilise Uber's global brand and operations footprint, technology for dispatching orders, and its more than 4.4 million drivers and couriers on the platform worldwide to do this.

"With 20,500 BP retail sites across the world and 550 million customers living within 20 minutes of a BP retail site, the partners see enormous opportunities for growth," BP added.

Shares in BP were up 1.3% at 386.10 pence each on Tuesday around midday in London. Shares in Uber Technologies closed at USD34.77 in New York on Monday and were up 1.7% in pre-market trading on Tuesday.
