(Alliance News) - Victrex PLC on Monday said it has chosen former BP PLC executive Vivienne Cox to be its new chair, replacing Larry Pentz who is stepping down after eight years in the role.

62-year-old Cox will become non-executive director of the Lancashire-based polymers company on December 1, before becoming chair after the annual general meeting on February 11. She has a "particular focus on sustainability, innovation and alternative energy," the FTSE 250 firm said.

Cox has served in several executive and boardroom roles at listed companies, and had a 28-year career at BP, where she became chief executive of the alternative energy division. Cox currently is non-executive director of GlaxoSmithKline PLC and Swedish shipping company Stena AB, and previously served as chair of industrial components maker Vallourec SA.

Shares in Victrex were down 0.6% at 2,470.00 pence in London on Monday morning.
