(Alliance News) - Haydale Graphene Industries PLC on Monday said it had filed a joint patent with Airbus Operations Ltd to cover the graphene enhanced materials the two firms have jointly generated.

The Ammanford, Wales-based nano-material producer created the Graphene Composites Evaluated in Lightning Strike Project with Airbus SE in late 2019.

The materials were launched to "reduce the unloaded weight of an airliner cost effectively and with clear environmental benefits".

The multi-party project sought to confirm that the incorporation of these materials could produce more composite materials with improved lightning strike performance.

The joint patent gives Haydale and Airbus the same rights to manufacture, use, sell and license the graphene enhanced materials.

"I am looking forward to adding the new technology to our functionalised master batch offering which will further improve the performance of this product range," said Chief Executive Keith Broadbent.

"We look forward to discussing the potential applications of this product with existing and new customers interested in achieving the environmental and cost benefits offered by our enhanced range," he added.

Shares in Haydale were up 1.6% at 7.17 pence in London on Monday afternoon trading.
