(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Monday set out a plan to recruit 2,000 new pilots over the next three years for new aircraft deliveries to recover from the damage done from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Captain vacancies created by these new aircraft deliveries are expected to be filled by internal promotions, which will allow for replacement First Officers and new cadet pilots.

Ryanair has now taken delivery of its first Boeing 737-8200 Gamechanger aircraft, which is expected to help the Swords-based low cost airline reduce costs, cut fuel consumption and lower noise and CO2 emissions.

"Ryanair has worked closely with our people to save jobs and we are delighted to start planning for a return to growth over the coming years as we recover from the Covid-19 crisis and grow to 200 million guests by FY2024," said People Director Darrell Hughes.

Shares in Ryanair were down 1.1% at EUR16.05 in London on Monday afternoon.
