(Alliance News) - Nissan Motor Co is in advanced talks with the UK government to build an electric car battery plant at its existing Sutherland site, the Financial Times reported Wednesday citing "three people briefed on the private discussions".
The new battery gigafactory will be operated by Nissan's Chinese battery maker Envision AESE and support production of 200,000 electric cars per year, the newspaper said.
Nissan is seeking significant financial support from the UK government for the project, running to "at least tens of millions of pounds", the FT said, citing two of the people.
