(Alliance News) - Centrica PLC on Monday said Johnathan Ford will step down as chief financial officer effective immediately, after only seven months in the role, citing "personal reasons".

Ford - who will leave the company at the end of January - was hired as finance chief in June last year during a restructuring that saw the removal of around 5,000 roles including that of the chief executives of the Centrica Consumer and Centrica Business divisions. Ford had been chief operating officer and CFO of Homeserve PLC.

On Monday, the British Gas parent said Ford will be succeeded by Kate Ringrose, who is being promoted from the role of financial controller. Centrica noted that Ringrose - who joined the company in 2005 - has held a variety of roles across its energy supply, services and trading businesses as well as in finance operations.

"I am very sorry to see Johnathan leave and would like to thank him for his contribution to the company and wish him and his family well for the future. However, I am delighted that we have a very capable internal successor in Kate, who brings a wealth of experience from a wide range of finance roles across Centrica," said Chief Executive Chris O'Shea.

Shares in Centrica were trading 2.3% lower at 49.45 pence each on Monday morning in London.
