(Alliance News) - The UK telecommunications regulator on Thursday announced the confirmed companies due to take part in the upcoming spectrum auction.

Ofcom said in December that BT Group PLC's EE Ltd business, CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd's Hutchison 3G UK Ltd, Telefonica UK Ltd and Vodafone Ltd had qualified to take part in the auction.

As of Thursday, they are now established bidders in the auction to release airwaves in the 700 megahertz and 3.6 to 3.8 gigahertz bands.

"We are keeping the timing of the start of bidding in the auction under careful review in light of the recent worsening of the coronavirus situation, and will publish an update on this in due course," said Ofcom.

Shares in BT were up 2.0% at 143.80 pence and in Vodafone were up 0.3% at 129.90 pence in London on Thursday. Shares in Telefonica were up 0.8% at EUR3.51 in Madrid and in CK Hutchison closed up 1.6% at HKD57.00 in Hong Kong on Thursday.
