Mathieu Caquineau: The results of the Awards for Investing Excellence 2022 have been announced for the Best Asset Manager Award. Candidates for this award must have a Morningstar parent rating of high or above average, which indicates both the strong investment culture and good stewardship practices. This year, Capital Group was selected by our analysts as the winner of this award in several countries in Europe and Asia. Capital Group is using its multi-manager system to bring best-in-class investment strategy to investors.

Today, I'm very pleased to be joined by Caroline Randall. She is a Portfolio Manager at Capital Group and also a member of the firm's management committee. Congratulations, Caroline, and thank you for being here.

Caroline Randall: Thank you for having me.

MC: Capital Group has built a very strong fund lineup over time. What are the key reasons behind this long-term success?

CR: Well, firstly, let me say we are absolutely delighted and just so honoured to have been recognised as the Best Asset Manager by Morningstar. At Capital Group, we are dedicated to helping investors achieve their long-term goals. So, it is really an incredibly proud moment for us that our efforts have been recognized with this award.

Firstly, I believe it is a reflection of the collaboration and dedication of our excellent investment and client teams throughout our 90-plus year history. Secondly, it is critical also to highlight that it is our investment approach, the capital system, which is a unique differentiating factor. Our portfolios are managed by teams of investment professionals with complementary investing styles, underpinned by deep, proprietary fundamental research by our teams of analysts. And finally, a key element of our investment process is how we have throughout our long history systematically integrated ESG across all holdings and strategies. ESG integration is a key part of our mission and can generate better long-term outcomes for our clients.

MC: And more broadly, what do you think is unique about your firm from a cultural standpoint?

CR: Well, Capital Group has a really unique culture that has been both preserved and enhanced from generation to generation. We believe it has ensured that we always make decisions based on what we believe is in the best long-term interests of our clients. Our mission to improve people's lives through successful investing has remained constant and unwavering. As you can imagine, we pay particular attention to leadership accountability, which in turn is demonstrated by the robust tenure of our associates.

Our leadership team can almost all count their tenure at the firm in decades, and our portfolio managers have on average been investing for over 20 years at Capital Group. Throughout our 91-year history we have stayed true to our core values of collaboration, mutual respect and integrity. As such, diversity, equity and inclusion is a vital factor in our success, and we believe strength comes from diverse teams with diverse backgrounds and diverse perspectives. We seek out and embrace different points of view and ideas, which helps us to help our investors reach their long-term goals.

MC: Caroline, thank you for your time. And again, congratulations on winning this award.

CR: Thank you so much.

MC: For Morningstar, I'm Mathieu Caquineau.
