Following a recent Morningstar Analyst Ratings Meeting, we have upgraded the Morningstar Analyst Rating™ of the Jupiter High Income fund to Bronze. The fund was previously Neutral rated. The fund’s managers, Alastair Gunn and Rhys Petheram, manage the fund as a more aggressive version of the Bronze rated Jupiter Distribution fund, with a higher equities weighting (70-80% versus around 30% in the latter). The managers have built a strong track record since taking responsibility for the Distribution fund in June 2010, outperforming its Cautious Allocation category consistently every year. Building on this success, High Income has performed within the top quartile of the Aggressive Allocation category over the managers’ tenure. While their track record on latter fund is shorter (Gunn was appointed in Aug 2013), our conviction comes from application of the same collegial approach as Distribution, in which the managers meet companies together and then decide on where is the best value within the capital structure.
