In January 2013, The Times newspaper wrote that Morningstar.co.uk is "a go-to website for investors, with detailed information on shares and funds including performance charts and ratings—top funds are “Gold” or “5 star”. You can also track and analyse your fund and share portfolio for free. Looking for inspiration? Morningstar is packed with investment guides, news, comment and videos."

The Times subscribers can read the article online here.

If you're new to Morningstar.co.uk, these five tips will help set you on your investing journey.

Tip #1
To research a specific stock, investment trust or fund, use the search box at the top of all Morningstar.co.uk pages to search by name or ticker. A dropdown list will display investments that match your search. Simply select the one you want to access our Stock or Fund Report.

Let's take a look at BP (BP.), for example: From BP's Stock Report you can access the oil major's share price performance chart, a synopsis of broker sentiment towards the stock, key ratios, and--for Premium subscribers--Morningstar's independent research report, including fair value estimate and financial health assessment.

Tip #2
Looking for funds but in need of inspiration? Visit our dedicated centres for open-ended funds, closed-end funds (investment trusts) and ETFs. Each centre contains tools that allow you to rank and screen investments according to your chosen criteria.

OEIC / Unit Trust Centre

ETF Centre

Investment Trust Centre

No matter what type of investment you're looking for, our Quickrank tools help you quickly sort your chosen universe by select criteria, while our Screeners enable you to identify specific investments that meet your identified needs. You'll find all these tools in our dedicated centres as well as on the Tools Centre.

Tip #3
Morningstar.co.uk has a great Portfolio Manager tool that enables you to create and track your portfolio. It's free, though upgrading to Premium enables you to X-Ray your portfolio and see at a glance how your assets are allocated across all your investments.

Tip #4
For timely and relevant investment news and commentary, be sure to watch the home page and search our online article archive for the topics you're interested in. We also regularly publish video interviews with eminent industry professionals as well as our own analysts--check out the Video Centre to watch these at your leisure.

Tip #5
Once you've created your free account at Morningstar.co.uk, click 'My Account' at the top of any page to sign up for our daily newsletter, our weekly 'Editor's Picks', or any of our five monthly thematic newsletters covering portfolio management tips, equities, funds and more.

Should you have any questions take a quick look at our Frequently Asked Questions section, or if you need some assistance please complete this form and our Client Support team will contact you directly.

Last but by no means least, many thanks to The Times for recognising us!
