LONDON (Alliance News) - Gaming firm Webis Holdings PLC said Friday one of its units has been granted a two-year licence approval in California.

Webis' advanced deposit wagering arm, called WatchandWager.com LLC, got the licence from the California Horse Racing Board, following a three-month extension in November.

This allows WatchandWager to keep accepting online wagers in California, which Webis said is an "increasingly important" market for the company.

California, Webis continued, is currently considering legalising sports betting, with a Sports Betting Bill now approached the committee stage. Webis said it is highly likely to approved, and this will make it one of the few firms licensed to accept sports bets.

WatchandWager President Ed Comins commented: "We are pleased to receive this license renewal from the California Horse Racing Board for WatchandWager for the next two years."

"These are very dynamic times in the racing and gaming industry in the USA, and we look forward to being ready to offer sports wagering to California residents as it is approved by the legislature. Our license to accept on-line wagers in California and at our physical racetrack operation, are a tremendous asset to the company."

Shares were up 1.9% on Friday at a price of 3.16 pence each.
