LONDON (Alliance News) - Serabi Gold PLC on Tuesday said there has been a fatality involving an employee at its Palito gold mine in Brazil.

The employee suffered a "crush related injury" and died as a result. Serabi said it is "investigating the cause of the accident" and has notified the authorities, including the police.

Production has been halted the area of the incident, which was not specified, and will not resume until enquiries achieve an outcome.

"We are deeply saddened to announce a fatal accident at our Palito mining operation on February 11 during the day shift. I join with all of my colleagues and fellow directors in expressing our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," said Serabi Chief Executive Mike Hodgson.

Shares in Serabi were down 4.0% at 36.50 pence on Tuesday afternoon.
