LONDON (Alliance News) - Vodafone Group PLC said Friday it appointed former Orange boss Sanjiv Ahuja as non-executive director of the FTSE 100-listed telecommunications firm with immediate effect.

Ahuja is currently chairman and founder of Tillman Global Holdings. Prior to this, he worked for mobile telecoms firm Orange SA - then a subsidiary of France Telecom SA, subsequently renamed Orange in 2013 - becoming chief executive between 2004 and 2007.

After leaving Orange, he served as chairman of wireless broadband firms LightSquared and Augere.

Vodafone Chairman Gerard Kleisterlee said he was "delighted" Ahuja has agreed to join the firm.

"He has broad telecoms expertise, having led mobile, broadband and infrastructure companies, as well as considerable international experience from operating in Europe, the US, Africa and Asia. We are looking forward to working with him", Kleisterlee said.

Shares in Vodafone were 2.1% lower at 143.98 pence on Friday.
