WASHINGTON (Alliance News) - A lawyer for Donald Trump arranged a 130,000-dollar payment for a former porn star in return for her silence over an alleged sexual encounter with the US president, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

Stephanie Clifford, 38, has alleged in private that the encounter took place following a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe in 2006, a year after Trump married his current wife Melania Trump.

The Journal reported that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen arranged the payment in October 2016, a month before the presidential election, after a lawyer for Clifford negotiated a nondisclosure agreement which prevented her from publicly discussing the alleged encounter.

Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels, had at the time been in talks with broadcaster ABC's "Good Morning America" about appearing on the programme to discuss Trump, the Journal reported.

The newspaper also published a photo of Clifford with Trump, which it said had been uploaded to her Myspace account in 2006.

"These are old, recycled reports, which were published and strongly denied prior to the election," a White House official said.

It was not clear if Trump was aware of the payment, according to the Journal.

The alleged payment came around the time that the Washington Post published the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape in which Trump boasted about sexually assaulting women.

In his recently published book "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," journalist Michael Wolff alleged that during the election campaign Trump lawyer Marc Kasowitz dealt with a "vast number of allegations and legal threats from an ever-growing list of women accusing Trump of molesting and harassing them."
