LONDON (Alliance News) - Iraqi oil producer Genel Energy PLC said on Friday it has appointed William Higgs as chief operating officer with effect on November 6.

He will be replacing Paul Schofield, who is stepping down from the role on October 16 after one and a half years in the role since 2016.

Higgs is currently chief operating officer at fellow oil and gas company Ophir Energy PLC, and has been for three years since 2014, and prior to that he was chief executive officer for former AIM-listed company Mediterranean Oil & Gas for two years, up to its acquisition by Rockhopper Exploration PLC in 2014.

"I would like to thank Paul for his efforts at Genel and wish him all the best for the future. I look forward to working with Bill as we continue to maximise the value of our assets in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq," said Genel Chief Executive Murat Ozgul.

Shares in Genel Energy were up 2.2% at 134.91 pence on Friday.
