STOCKHOLM (Alliance News) - Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen says he has summoned the Turkish ambassador to express his "grave concerns" over the overnight arrests of 11 members of the opposition People's Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey.

The German Foreign Ministry has also summoned its envoy for Turkey due to what it regards as a "further dramatic aggravation of the situation" in the country, where some 35,000 people have been arrested following a failed coup in July.

Sweden also reacted to the arrests, which Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom called "very worrying," adding that they were "part of a long period of measures targeting HDP representatives."

EU members should "take a unified stance to ensure that human rights and rule of law are upheld in Turkey," she adds.
