LONDON (Alliance News) - Avanti Communications Group PLC on Monday said it has signed a deal with the South African Foundation for African Business And Consumer Services business chamber and its Microtelco e-ncubator business incubator programme.

The partnership will provide high-speed satellite broadband to more than 1,000 small and medium-sized companies in South Africa and will be deployed in some of the most remote parts of the country, Avanti said.

No financial details on the partnership were provided.

"Working hand-in-hand with FABCOS, its incubator and the South African government, this contract will deliver vital connectivity and training to the hundreds of businesses for whom broadband will power growth," said David Williams, Avanti's chief executive.

Avanti shares were up 4.2% to 229.25 pence on Monday morning.
