In the February edition of Morningstar's monthly ETF webinars, director of European ETF research Ben Johnson set out to explain what appears to be a relatively simple question: what is an ETF? Johnson puts ETFs into context within the broader investor toolkit by comparing these exchange-traded products to funds, individual securities, investment trusts and other exchange-traded products. He also takes the audience on a more conceptual journey, discussing ETFs in the context of investment technology and waxing philosophical on the developments in this arena.

To better understand about ETFs and how investors can make use of these tools, from a literal, historical and conceptual standpoint, please click 'Play' below to replay the webinar and review Johnson's slides.
