We Expect Stronger Second Half from Anglo American

Bad weather weighed on Anglo American’s first half; we have ample reasons to believe the second half of the year will bring stronger production volume

Heady prices for Anglo American's (AAL) key commodities allowed the company to generate strong results in the first half of 2011, despite weather-related operational headaches that bogged down production (see our April 21 note covering Anglo's first-quarter production report) and the ill effects of higher prices for raw materials, labor, and local currencies. In the back half of the year, we expect to see sequential improvement in Anglo's profit margin as production levels return to more normal levels.
